Dasavatharam Cinema Review

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘Watch Kamal like never before’ seems to be the tagline for Dasavatharam. Lots of expectations and more appraisals on Uzhaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan and Dasavatharam has created fever among all. It has been a long wait for die hard Kamal fans and the legend has not disappointed them.
Dasavatharam is veteran director K S Ravikumar's dream project and Oscar Ravichandran's mega budget movie. Yes, the film has a whopping budget of seventy crore and has upset all previous records - a special thanks to the producer for supporting the actor and director in their venture.
The entire crew has worked hard to create the desired effect and maintain the grandeur in every scene which makes the viewers spellbound. The film opens in the Chozha period when the Shaivites and Vaishnavites locked horns with each other. Kamal’s performance, Ravi Varman’s cinematography, Devi Sri Prasad’s re-recording and Thanikachalan’s editing transport the viewers to the chozha era which would take a long time for them to unravel, particularly the scene where the Saivite King orders the statue of Lord Ranganatha to be thrown into the sea and threatens the ardent Vaishnavite Kamal to utter Om Namashivaya just once. The film begins with the Chozha period but moves to modern times bringing with it adventure and action.
True to the saying ‘variety is the spice of life’, Kamal Hassan has tried many an experiment with the look of his characters in the film and his hard work and perseverance is palpable in every frame and in all ten toles. An angry Vaishnava young man from Chozha period, US President George Bush, mentally unstable old woman, a Japanese Karate master, Punjabi ghazal singer, a dalit man fighting for justice, an American terrorist out to kill people, an eight feet innocent Muslim, an astute scientist, a Telugu secret service man speaking Tamil in a weird fashion- a visual treat to his fans indeed!
Out of these ten roles, Grandma Kamal is a reminder of Avvai Shanmugi and Kamal, as he is fondly called has given a stunning performance as the dalit. The rest of the roles can be talked about for the make up alone. Leading heroines Asin and Mallika Sherawat grace the screen with their glamour and lend excitement to this action thriller. Asin as an Agraharam girl is almost on par with Kamal in performance.
Dasavatharam’s main strength is the technical expertise, which the technicians have utilized without the viewer being aware of it. Sheer excellence is seen in the in Tsunami scenes, car chasing shots, Chozha period and the scene where all the Kamals come together.
All said, Himesh Reshammiah renders engrossing music which is soul soothing as well as foot tapping. He sure deserves credit for getting the Tamil audience’ pulse right and coming up with music that is sure to satisfy them. In one of the numbers Ulaganayagane, the director has picturized Kamal’s make-up secrets hich proves his expertise.
